The global mania for Cricket is very much alive in Sri Lanka too especially after winning quite a few championships. No matter where you go, kids, youth, adults and now even ladies compete with the bat and the ball. Hence, there are a number of venues where the game is played for local and international tournaments. Colombo itself has four such main venues for Cricket. They are, the SSC, P. Sara, Premadasa and Kettarama stadiums, mostly having the day/night facility drawing huge number of spectators. Outside Colombo are the Galle international Stadium, Hambantota Int. Apart, Soccer and Rugby are also popular among the people and there are clubs to promote bot h disciplines organizing tournaments. The best players represent the country in international events. Hence there are many playing fields around the country to promote these games and players. Athletics too has a very important place even in the schools. Every school has a sports meet annually to discover talented athletes and they are groomed to become national representatives. Sri Lanka has produced outstanding performers in many an international event. Sugathadasa stadium in Colombo hosts islandwide meets as well as Asian contests.

Up in the hills at Nuwara Eliya the Tea Kingdom, better known for the April Season has a race course that comes alive during the season along with Golf Tournaments. At the time of writing, it is reported that The Royal Turf Club in Nuwara Eliya has in its pipeline to organize International Horse Racing. So keep counting for that day that you could participate while touring Sri Lanka.
