DAY 01- AIRPORT PICKUP- PINNAWELA- DRIVE TO DAMBULLA

The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage was started in 1975 by the Department of Wildlife on a twenty five acre coconut property on the Maha Oya River at Rambukkana. The orphanage was primarily designed for afford care and protection to the many baby elephants found in the jungle without their mothers.

DAY 02- SIGIRIYA- VILLGE TOUR – DAMBULLA CAVES SIGIRIYA

The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster.

DAMBULLA CAVES
The Dambulla Rock Temple had first been constructed during the reign of King Vattagamini Abhaya (103 BC and 89-77 BC ). The Sinhalese often call him as King Valagamba. During the South Indian invasion, the king had to abandon his Anuradhapura Kingdom. For 12 years, King Valagamba was hiding and he had frequented these caves for his safety. It is located at an elevation of 1118 feet from the sea level raising a massive rock from the surrounding plains of Dambulla of 600 feet high and over 2000 feet in length. It is home to the World’s most acclaimed Cave complex of magnificent Buddha Images and Rock.

DAY 03- DRIVE TO ANURADHAPURA- ANURADHAPURA CITY TOUR

Anuradhapura was the cradle of glorious Sinhalese Buddhist civilization. The pride of place in Anuradhapura was taken by the ancient stupas and ancient reservoirs. Towering stupas (dagobas) of stupendous domes, the marvels of ancient civil engineering, were built having taken into the account the effects of lightening on high rise constructions, among numerous other engineering factors. DAY 04- DRIVE TO TRINCOMALEE – KONNESWARAM TEMPLE

Koneswarm Kovil is on the top of the Swami rock, which can be considered as the highest place in Trincomalee. Once you reach the temple you have a beautiful view of the surrounding area and if you can make it in the morning you can watch and take photos of a beautiful sunrise. As in many Hindu kovils you have beautiful and colorful carved figures. There is a sacred Bo tree as well but reaching it is a bit difficult since it is near a steep rock slope. Just below you can see some of the most crystal blue water which you can find anywhere in Sri Lanka.
LOVERS LEAP
As the name suggests this place is famous for couples committing suicide. There is a monument built for a lady that has committed suicide here but the historical facts suggest that the mentioned lady has actually lived, married and had children. This is just beside the Koneswaram temple so you want miss it if you are visiting the Koneswaram Hindu kovil.

DAY 05 TRINCOMALEE

Trinco fort is an old fort built by the Portuguese. Currently it is used as an army base but you have the freedom to explore some parts inside the fort. You can still see the remains of some old building and guns and you can see various crested in some building as well. There are some administrative buildings inside the fort as well.

KINNIYA HOT WATER SPRINGS
This is around 30 minutes ride from Trincomalee early you get there the better. There are seven wells built on top of hot water springs and the temperature varies from well to well .It can get pretty crowded during a public holiday. So if you visit there during a public holiday make sure to go there as early as possible .You need to pay a small fee to enter the place.

Kinniya new bridge is currently the longest bridge in Sri Lanka. This was built with the donation from Saudi Arabia and opened to public on 20th October 2009. Kinniya bridge is 10 meters wide and 495 meters in length.

DAY 06 TRINCOMALEE

PIGEON ISLAND
A small island near Trincomalee which is a national park as well. The island got its name because of hundreds of pigeons that gather in the island. There is a coral reef there with many species. So it is a great place to go snorkeling or diving. There are two beaches in the island as well where you can have a relaxing time.
NILAWELI BEACH LEISURE
This is considered as one of the purest white sand beaches in Asia. Nilaveli beach is a great place for sea bath and to have a relaxing evening. If you can afford to stay at the Nilaveli beach hotel then you have easy access to the Nilaveli beach and even from the Trincomalee town it is about 15 minutes drive. There are no fresh water bathing facilities nearby, something you should consider before leaping to the sea.
